AI doesn't have to be overwhelming.

Most people trying to learn AI are learning the wrong things.

As a consultant, I've worked at the intersection of AI and real-world systems — for the CDC, Disney, and the Inter-American Development Bank, and inside a cutting-edge AI startup. I know exactly what matters and what you can safely ignore. The people who get ahead with AI aren't the ones who try the most tools. They're the ones who have someone translate it for their specific situation. That's what these sessions do.

Slade Mahoney

I've worked where AI is actually deployed.

I'm Slade Mahoney — a policy analyst, data strategist, and AI consultant based in San Diego, CA. As a consultant, I've worked across some of the most complex organizations in the world. At the CDC, I was part of a multidisciplinary working group — convening leading medical and public health experts across the Americas — working to harness AI and data to predict emerging pandemic threats and coordinate regional emergency responses. At the Inter-American Development Bank, I supported data and strategy initiatives driving evidence-based policymaking across Latin America. At The Walt Disney Company, I built a supply chain traceability platform that mapped the provenance of raw materials across global manufacturing networks — calculating, at each stage of production, the probability of exposure to forced labor. Most recently, I worked at AchillesHR, a cutting-edge agentic AI company building the next generation of hiring technology — including AI-powered voice and text interviews, automated candidate scheduling, and end-to-end recruiting workflows. That experience put me inside the room where production AI systems are actually designed, tested, and deployed.

My graduate training is in public policy from UC San Diego and data analytics from UC Berkeley. I've spent my career at the intersection of complex technical systems and the organizations that need to use them. That means I understand AI not just as a tool, but as something that requires translation — between what it does, what it promises, and what actually matters to real people.

"What I bring to these sessions isn't just AI literacy — it's the ability to translate between technical systems and the humans who use them. I've been that bridge professionally for years."

I'm bilingual in English and Spanish, and I've consulted across healthcare, entertainment, international development, and academia. I work with individuals, families, and small businesses — meeting people where they are, not where the industry assumes they should be.

Answers up front.

Not at all. These sessions are built specifically for people who are not engineers. The goal is plain-language understanding, not technical depth. If you can send an email, you can get something real out of this.
Tutorials teach you a tool. They can't ask you questions. They don't know what you're trying to accomplish, what industry you're in, or what's already eating your time. They also can't tell you which 10% of what they're covering is actually relevant to you versus which 90% you can ignore. These sessions are a conversation — one that starts with where you are and ends with a concrete, personalized plan. You also get email support between sessions if questions come up.
A clear mental model for how AI tools work, a shortlist of tools relevant to your situation, and practical next steps you can take immediately. Package clients also receive a written summary and resource list after each session.
Many parents — especially those in professional fields — feel behind their children when it comes to AI. These sessions give you the foundation to have informed conversations with your kids, understand what they're doing online, and teach them to use AI responsibly and strategically. The families who get ahead with AI aren't the ones who hand their kids the tools and hope for the best — they're the ones who understand it themselves first. This is one of the most common reasons people book these sessions.
The first session is mostly discovery — I learn about your context, what you're trying to accomplish, and where you're stuck. Sessions two and three go hands-on: we explore tools together, I demonstrate, and you practice. The pace is yours.
Because I'm actively building my portfolio of client outcomes, I offer a 20% discount to clients who agree to provide a short written testimonial after completing the three-session package. Anonymity is always an option. Reach out to discuss.
